Caravan / Trailer Registration Plate For International Travel

Since 26 August 2025, the DVLA has advised UK trailer owners, including caravanners, to register any trailer over 750kg before travelling to most European countries. This changes the long standing practice by which UK leisure trailers including caravans, have been able to travel throughout Europe without requiring individual registration for the trailer itself.
Registration means certification via the government UK Trailer Registration Scheme and not registration via any other scheme.
At registration a certificate will be issued and a separate trailer registration plate should be displayed on the caravan.
Towcraft are a DVLA registered number plate supplier who can legally manufacture a registration plate.
As a DVLA registered number plate suppler we are legally required to check your personal details and your legal entitlement to the registration number you are asking us to manufacture. You will need to provide 2 documents, one from group A and one from group B, for the required information. This information is safely retained and can be requested from us by the police, the DVLA or the DVSA at any time.
We are required by law to collect this information from you.
(A) Proof of your name and address:
1. Driving licence with or without a photo (doesn’t have to be issued in the UK)
2. Utility bill or Council Tax bill (from the last 6 months)
3. Bank or building society statement (from the last 6 months)
4. National identity card (issued by the government of a state or territory other than the United Kingdom)
(B) Proof of entitlement to the registration:
1. an electronic trailer number plate authorisation certificate (eV948/2)
(Only valid for 5 days from date of issue)
